A pretty balanced commentary from Cowie - at times it seems like it's Film Crit 101 with various painterly remarks on the way the film is set up, lit, framed, etc, and you'll think "Well, I could figure the same stuff out myself", but then he'll go on to other things concerning the background of the film and film-makers, which is a much more useful tack for anyone interested in classic films from this era. His words are so carefully chosen that he must be reading them from a prepared script, yet they don't come across as mere recitation because of Cowie's easy-going delivery.
