More of a conversation than a commentary, the participants are still sat in front of the film and do refer to the events/actors/location on screen fairly regularly, but overall it's a wide-ranging discussion about Forsyth and Parsons' film-making careers in general.
When they do talk about the film, Forsyth is brutally honest about its shortcomings which he is quick to blame on himself and his script, describing it as "under-worked".
Despite some pleasant memories evoked by re-viewing the film 20 years on, Forsyth's disillusionment with the film-making process is all too obvious in other comments and it's no great surprise that he declares he has no desire to ever direct again (his last film was in 1999), and now just wants to concentrate on writing.
So at times quite a sombre commentary but still well worth a listen, and a nice antidote to some of the more frivolous commentary tracks out there.
Forsyth may be disenchanted with the idea of film directing, but he makes a very accommodating commentary companion so let's hope he'll come back for commentaries on his two masterpieces GREGORY'S GIRL and LOCAL HERO (both in my Top Ten Comedy Films)...
