Another finely edited track from New Line. Each participant gives a unique perspective to "Leatherface." You have the director Burr, who acknowledges he was a late hire, and infuses the track with a very self-deprecating, yet informative listen. David Schow contributes a lot of information about his writing, his experiences working with New Line, and the ultimate "taming" that his violent story received prior to shooting and release. What's very refreshing is to hear Mark Ordovsky's take from the perspective of the studio. "New Line" was searching for another franchise, as they felt "Freddy" was starting to get stale. As the only "Chainsaw" not filmed in Texas, "Leatherface" was made on a relatively small budget in Southern California, with predominately night shoots. Even the actors contribute some fun anecdotes, as Butler was a roommate of Viggo Mortensen at the time. And given that this track was recorded following the successful revamp of "TCM" in 2003, there is plenty of praise for the movie star that began his career "slumming" in such genre fare as "Prison," and "Leatherface." Sadly, Nicotero enters the commentary rather late, mostly to establish the EFX shots that his team contributed. But, much like other Horror fare of this era, these shots were cut to ribbons at the behest of the MPAA. All in all, a great listen, with absolutely zero "dead air." New Line Home video really know how to mix and edit a fine commentary. 9/10
