This is a fairly routine commentary, but probably of interest to film buffs because Milius has done only a handful of commentary appearances and this, as he concludes on the track, is his most popular film. It takes a slightly different tack to most other commentaries in that he doesn't talk about the "characters" throughout the film, or the "actors", but instead their real-life counterparts ("This really happened!"). BIG WEDNESDAY is an autobiographical film in that Milius wants to capture the atmosphere and milieu of old-school surf culture. No big surprises or revelations here, but it makes a change to hear Milius, often associated with more macho fare, in a nostalgic tone. It's also gratifying to hear him sing the praises of underappreciated film composer Basil Poledouris.
